  • We floated cheerios in the toilet for "target practice", and also did rewards. (I have 3 boys...all stubborn about potty training)

I have to admit, that even then, they took their time learning. One was almost three, the other two were three years old+ when they were finally trained.

I suppose I didn't push too hard. I encouraged them and worked on it, but I figured I'd never seen a kindergartner that wasn't potty trained, so they'd get it.

  • How old? under 2 it is most likely too young to expect him to be trained,, if it is an issue just wait,, most kids are potty trained better closer to 3,, before then they are training you to haul them to the potty every 15 minutes,, and yes I know there are exceptions, but In my experience if you wait a bit you will have better luck.

  • Honestly the best thing to do is to stop trying. Let him take the lead. He knows what he is supposed to do so now let him take the lead. Ask him if he wants to go potty but be indifferent when he says no. Don't insist. When he wants to try praise him like he just won the lottery. IME the more you insist them harder they fight. I promise he will not go to kindergarten in diapers. :0)

  • I didn't train my son until almost 3. He was a bit older and really ready for it. Even Dr. Brazelton recommends waiting until almost 3. I found these packing peanuts that desolve in water.  I would throw them in the toilet and have my son aim for them.  He loved it.

  • I found that when their ready their ready. I dont think this is an issue you can force but just gentle nudges will help in their development.

  • he is pretty young, compared to the "typical" age for potty training boys. i started trying with my youngest when he turned 2, and it took until he turned 3 before he "got it". if he does not seem to be "getting it" in a few days, hold off for a few weeks or so and try again. just my opinion, it is what worked for my son.
