What was the thought process

of the first person to pry a mushroom of a pile of cow crap and try eating it? And how did s/he know the hallucinations were caused by the mushroom and not something the cow ate?

There was actually a documentary on the History Channel or something like that where it showed that the guy that ate the first one liked the effects so much that he had something ridiculous like 18 the next time around...whoa. Let me see if I can find something about it.
