What are your kids' "only when sick" habits?

Meaning - what are the things they do that let you know they are really sick and not faking it? Mine will send himself to his room and put himself to bed without saying a word to anyone. He'll also say no to things like popcicles and donuts. He turned down homemade donuts the other day, that's when I knew this bug going around was serious.

  • he tells me he's tired and retreats to his bedroom, where he just stays on the bed, lying down. he's 6.5yo..he's never tired or wants to sleep!
if its a quick stomach bug, he tells me he's gonna be sick, then runs to the bathroom. he used to run to the tiled floors, off the carpeting, because when he was little, that's what we'd do...scoop him up and run to the tiled areas.

  • well at 5 he hasn't mastered the art of faking or lying (thankfully), but I know he is sick because he wants to cuddle, or for me to lay on the couch with him.

  • For Lizzy it's when she is as quiet as a mouse. She's a chatty Cathy and so when you don't hear a peep from her then you know she's really sick.

  • For DD. She's not running everywhere, is not impulsive, and just lays there. Granted, she is only 4... but will say she feels "icky" when she doesn't want what I cook for dinner.

DS (6) is much harder, as he has trouble communicating (ASD). He will get very vacant and say "head hurt" for any ill. He will also meltdown much quicker. He doesn't really fake sick...

  • She tells me that she needs more rest and lays down on the couch and doesn't move even when a cat is in front of her view of the tv. Otherwise she is bouncing off the walls normally.

  • honest to God the cat tells me. lmao!! If the cat is decides to sit with either of my kids for longer then 3 seconds you can bet they have a fever of over 101.

Mine loose apatite though. My kids are big eaters so I can tell if something is up from that as well.

  • My girls are still pretty little so, faking it hasn't started yet. I can tell my kids are sick by the look of their eyes. I know that's sounds silly, but they almost turn a grey color where the white of the eyes are and around their eyes turn a pink color. My 4 year old will tell me she doesn't feel good and wants to lay down a lot. My 2 year old gets really whiny and wants to sleep. They are normally very active children so, I know they are really sick if they just want to lay down. I haven't mastered my 5 month old yet...she hasn't actually gotten sick besides a cold (knock on wood).
