How should I wash my sons toys (pic)...

We went to a friends house and she smokes.... they were on her floor and I was just wondering if I could throw them in the wash... they do not have stuffing in the middle. I don't think... doesn't feel like it anyway. they are very dense. They are made of 100% organic cotton.

  • Did they not come with a care tag? Most of my kids soft toys have a small tag attached to them with care instructions. If not, and they smell like smoke, I would try some febreze first and if that didn't work, throw them in the wash.

  • I would hand wash them in the sink with dish soap & warm water. Squeeze them in a towel to get out as much water as you can then place them on a dry towel near the radiator to dry.

  • Do you know what they are stuffed with?

If they are stuffed with dense, 100% cotton stuffing, they may wick a ton of water in the wash and take a while to dry completely. There should be care instructions on them (though, sometimes we take those off - to keep the little ones from chewing on them).

If it's really just the smell you want to get rid of, try tumbling them in a cool dryer with a damp towel.

  • They say you shouldn't wash beanie babies but I did. The center was filled with polyurathane pellets that washed easily. Try one as a test then do the others.
