Popular names?

We do not know yet if we are having a boy or girl yet - we find out next month, but I am trying to come up with several name. However, one of the names I love is super popular right now, Jacob. What do you think about popular names?

My name was number one for several years before and after I was born. However, I never had a problem having a popular name. Thoughts?

  • I avoided everything in the top 500. I didn't want to do a strange spelling or find anything too common or never heard before. I also didn't want a name that ended in an 'ah' sound since I have 3 nieces that do.

Tess fit us just nicely. We run into another every now and then, which is fine.

My name has always been in the top 3 for middle names. I can't tell you how many times I've heard somebody tell me their mother, sister or wife has it as their middle name.

  • There are a lot of good popular names (hence they are popular for a reason). But, I personally wouldn't use a name in the Social Security top 100 baby names, that's just me. I like Jacob too but, I'd use it as a MN.

  • I like the name Jacob.... That's very common name. My son surprisingly has an uncommon name and I love his name. People say its ghetto (mostly younger white ppl) all the older people especially older white women automatically know that my sons name is in the bible and what book and verse in the bible. I got my sons name from bible school when we use to sing.... If my unborn is a girl I want her Name to be Sarah and if a boy maybe immanuel..IDK. I love the name Jacob. I suggested Jacob for my friends child his middle name is jacob

  • Eh. I'm not big on names that are too unique or unusual. I really dislike creative spelling. I didn't want names that were too common either, however. WHen my DS was born in 2002 we thought we had a good compromise. A name a liked but wasn't everywhere. When we picked it, there was no one we knew with the same name and it fell in the triple digits on the various ranking lists. Within months, however, the name climbed up the list and is in the top 100 now. There are also two other kids with the name Logan in my son's grade at school - one of them is a girl. Point is, you can try to be unusual and less common and it may not work out. ;)

  • I say its your child so pick what you want and don't worry about if there will be other kids in his/her class with the same name. I'm a Sarah so there were a TON but I never minded it. :) I love the name Jacob/Jake!

  • I'm not a fan of common names of the current times...but I like classic names, or names that were common at one time....my girls' names are Violet and Maryanne....not common right now, but used to be many years ago....same with my son, Phillip...
