Need some coping skills to pass on to a friend

I have a friend who is taking Interferon treatments for Hep C. The treatments are going very well as far as treating the disease, and the outlook is good. However, any of you who know about this medication know that it causes psychiatric issues. A lot of people stop the treatment because they cannot stand the feeling that they are going insane... seriously, it makes you feel incredibly anxious, and like you are losing your mind. Her doctor wants to prescribe Ativan, or a mood stabilizer such a Seroguel, but she is in recovery for drug addiction, and she doesnt want to take it. Do any of you know any behavior coping skills that would be good for this situation? Ive suggested things like meditation... Any other ideas? Ill take any advice... thanks.

  • She also may want to look into Valerian Root supplements. It will not interfere with her treatment medication. My daughter also takes interferon treatments for her MS and this helps a lot. (Although it is a variation on the interferon used to treat Hep C)

  • Are there any natural things she can do for the hep c? I would tell her to go see a Naturopathic doctor, they can really help.
