I am interested in getting my hair straightened permanently (not by myself at home, from an experienced hair stylist in a salon ofcourse). They claim they have really good products with less chemicals which does not damage hair as it used to in the past.
Is it harmful? How long ago did you get it done? Did you have hair loss after/because of it? Please tell me about your experience. Thanks in advance :)
I've had two different chemical straighteners, both generally used for African hair. The old-fashioned lye "relaxer", and a "no lye" relaxer. There are some newer permanent straighteners, available only in salons, that I have not tried. Do your homework first. Learn about options and the practitioners you're considering. Here are a couple of links that may help:

I've used the lye relaxer/straightener for many years. I began with salon applications, but for the last several years have been doing it myself (all require touch-ups for the new growth)
