What should I do??

I am on this program TEA through DHS. I have to either work or volunteer 20 hours a week in order for me to get 204 month and also stay in another program from the workforce to get free day care. So I have been volunteering but recently got a job offer. Yeah for me!! It is 18 hours a week 9 dollars an hour. Everything was going smooth until I got a call from my case worker saying that I will be making a a few dollars over the limit to stay on TEA but I am not working enough hours to stay in the program for day care either. 8 hours less a month to be exact. The job can to give me less then 18 hours and no more then 18 hours. I was thinking of going in there and asking them to drop my wage about a dollar or fifty cents but I just feel I don't know exactly what I feel about that.

What do you think I should do?

  • Sit down and calculate what how much you need to decrease your wage in order to stay in your programs. I know it is a hard decision to make less money, but it will make your life better by having the extra help that you need. Good luck.

  • I would write out exactly where your cut off is and go in and approach them with this- just be honest and see what they think might work out. . Hang in there. :-) If you approach them with "I need your help" , people truely want to assist in solving things.... just keep going, it sounds like things are turning around. Good Luck.

  • What if you ask them to cut your hours by a few and then volunteer to make up the rest of the hours you need to keep the day care?
