What have you done to protect the rights of people who do NOT practice your religion?

Do you write or phone congressmen about laws, write letters to the editor, speak at board meetings? Do you actually not care if the rights of those who don't practice your religion are protected or not, as long as yours are? Or at the other extreme, do you actively pursue law changes, school policies and social changes that require the rules of your religion to be enforced on others, even if they are not a member of it?

  • Aside from writing congress and sitting in on local legislature I watch how I vote and refuse to vote for anyone that will strip the religious liberties and freedoms of anyone.(which is not the same as them stripping away the special privileges that go above the law as some have been accustomed to receiving)

  • My job is to respect those rights, not to protect them. If I see them being violated, as it somehow happens here with indigenous rights, I may speak up, and cast my vote (which is my tool) to support those rights. I don't think it's my place to impose what I think is right and important.
But I don't expect anyone else to protect my rights as well, and I don't think those who don't are bad, selfish people. Like me, their responsibility is to respect my rights. We all fight for our needs and all we can do with others is act in the best possible ways and with the best of intentions towards them.

Wouldn't this be a foolish stance to take... b/c if someone else's religious beliefs, or lack there of, can be silenced then so can your own!!! What a slippery slop this would be!!

  • I guess quite a bit. I am an Atheist Republican, so my vote goes to people who typically support the rights of churches. I suppose the biggest thing I do is just not throw a fit about being exposed to all sorts of religion (which I learned here, is supposed to wildly offend me LOL)

  • I am in support of the Catholic Church in this latest issue.

Government needs to stay out .

Social "progressives" demand separation of church and state and by dern we need to keep giving it do them!

The State has decided, in it's infinite wisdom, what the Church may not do.

The Church must be able to tell the State what it will not do.

    Both ways.

I think the very recent Church has done a good job in this country of trying to get along.

  • I volunteer at at a local center that helps many (in fact most) that are not my religion and we are always fighting for right of refuges and those that are trying to leave abusive husbands. We are able to obtain, at the very least, the right for them to work and in some cases citizenship.
