Do you believe our survival on planet Earth is being threatened?

Is it correct to think that without immediate change in our ways, humankind could disappear soon? Or are there already positive signs of change and grounds for optimism in our historical ability to adapt and survive?

  • anon 1:47, it is ideas like that that perpetuate the disaster of global warming. No one is saying that the earth is going to implode or something because of global warming. But we have seen that it is affecting those animals that live in the polar areas. Their numbers get smaller and smaller. Squeezing your eyes shut and gripping your bible isn't going to change that. I happen to care about what kind of world is left to our children's children. And their children.

But, has anyone noticed that weather events in the last couple of years have been looking more and more like that movie The Day After Tomorrow? No it isn't happening in a matter of days or weeks, but much more slowly. We are experiencing crazy weather phenomena unlike anything in the near past. And often in strange places.

  • I just hope we can turn our ways around and save the earth as it is, before it is too late and we lose so much more than we have already. And if we do go through some sort of "climate shift", I hope we are strong enough to survive and adapt.

  • Not worried...we at least a million years or so...won't be around then, and won't know anyone else who will be either.

  • Casperkitty, I feel the same way. It's going to come down to us being able to survive and adapt for us to make any drastic change in the way humanity sees itself on Earth.

It's easy not to be worried, we *personally* won't be here a million years or so...but our children's descendants will hopefully, and we have to wrap our mind around that concept of our distant future--that the choices we make in this generation are going to have an effect on later ones. It's somewhat spiritual to think about, as long as Earth lives on we will continue on throughout generations, and each generation is given the Earth that the previous generation cared for. You know?

  • The earth cycles.

Mankind and earth is coming to an end ... as we know it.

There's nothing that we can do to stop it; trying to is futile activity.
