Too much, too little??

My son will be 4 months old on the 26th. He was eating 4 times a day 8 ounces first thing in the morning and right before bed, then 2 -6 ounce bottles in the middle of the day. Last couple of days hes been eating 3 -8 ounce bottles about 5 or 6 hours apart during the day. Even though it is formula I try to still feed on demand but only eating 3 times a day seems a little off for only a 4 month old. Is this okay?? Is he getting enough milk. I do not know exactly how much he weighs but he is easily a 15lb baby(find out Tuesday at his checkup)

  • To me that's normal your ds isn't going to starve himself trust me.... and formula is more filling then breast milk.. my dd is the same way now but now i added cereal to her diet and she loves it... but if you have concerns talk to his Dr when you take him in..

  • It doesn't sound off to me. My 4 mo was only eating about 3-4 times a day and she was on BM. She slept 12 hours at night by that point and we started veggies at 3 mos on her peds recommendation. My child just wanted food and not liquids all the time. If you are feeding your baby on demand then you are feeding him what he needs when he needs it. If you are concerned talk to his doc next week.

  • Completely normal, babies change their eating habits all the time, as long as he's growing and not fussy he's fine.

  • It is normal for a child to spread out their feeding times as they grow, but what I do is give them the same amount of ounces at each feeding. It helps children know what to expect, it helps their bodies know what to expect, it doesn't stretch their stomach, then shrink it. Simply put, it's more consistent which is what a young one needs! So at my child care center we feed a 4 month old 4 ounces every 2 hours, sometimes 2.5 hours. The first feeding of the morning they will be most hungry, then through out the day, not as much, but still give them the 4 ounces withing a 2.5 hour time slot. so, if he/she has 2 ounces at 2pm, then try to offer him/her another 2ounces by 4pm. If they don't want it, then it's ok. If the child is crying, think of every other possibility it could be, before feeding: are they bored? are they wet? etc.
