Why is it that people that just want unity are targeted with violence?

Martin luther King Jr., Malcolm X, Bob Marly were all subjected to be murdered cause they wanted unity and one love, It is so upseting that we cannot unite still because people dont want to try.

  • It's all about fear of change. People who feel they wield some sort of power over others are afraid that they will lose that power and be left vulnerable. People who feel they are somehow "superior" to others fall into this category. They are constantly aware that power can shift, so they go to great lengths to make sure that it doesn't.

Other people who feel they are powerless are more afraid of a possible change for the better than they are of staying in a situation that is negative. At least with the current status quo they know what to expect and that feels "safe". People like that are sort of like women who choose to stay with abusive husbands. They are so afraid that the unknown might be worse than where they currently are that they will make excuses and actively work to keep things the way they are.

Both types can snap and do horrible things.

  • I believe it's about power and control. And I agree, it is sad.

  • I think its because people are affraid, the idea of changing something that has been one way for so long is scary. It is kinda like why change what has worked for so many years.

Erm...It hasn't worked.  Not for everyone at least.  The only people it has worked for, were the people that weren't experiencing any negative effects from the lack of unity.

  • Simple, it's human nature. Those who are violent will attack those whom they see as weaker. People seeking and supporting unity are seen as week by the violent types and therefore targeted.

  • Because people are IDIOTS- they don't WANT unity- they want to fight. They want to feel better about themselves by putting others down.

  • Violence isn't about violence. It's about control.

And good lord, lovetoteachc.  Can you come up with something better than calling people names?  It's getting old.

  • I agree with 2 out of 3 of your examples. Malcolm X wasn't for unity...he was an extremist. I do not feel as if he should have been assassinated but I also do not feel he should be in the same category as Dr. King or Bob Marley. The people who assassinated these men were afraid of change and violence is the child of fear.
