What would you do? advice please!

Piog. Sorry this is long..

I need opinions. Dh works far but he has an interview soon for a job here. If he is hired we would have to return both our vehicles. We still owe a good amount on both. We do have two older vehicles in our garage we can fix. One needs tires and inspection. It has 120,000 miles. I would use it to take ds to school and to pick up. The other needs parts and inspection as well. This car is a 97 with 60,000 miles. Those are paid off.

We can get rid of cable, a few credit card payments and other bills with our saved money. If he is offered a position, after all this we would have about $600 left each month. They offer raises first 3 months and after every 6 months. I recently applied to an online job. If that works out I could get extra cash.

I have two kids. One in school and a toddler. I have searched for great daycare in my area which is why I am a sahm. I would be working just to pay daycare and after school care for our other child. Not worth it.

Current job pays well but he got a pay cut recently. They also send him home often with no pay until another job goes out. He spends money on gas and groceries when he's away. Sometimes he's gone for 3 months straight. Sometimes he's home for more than a month.

We can slowly start getting rid of other bills at least by next income for sure and have a $900-$1000 left monthly after bills. Plus what we have saved.

What would you do? Be tight on money for a few months and get rid of bills or be ok with him being far?

  • Would it be possible for you guys to move closer to where he works? That way he would spend less on other expenses while he is at work and you could keep the better income.

  • No, his job always changes location. Moving is not an option.

  • I would rather money be tight for a few months. I would miss my husband too much, and I don't want him to miss out on our kids growing up.
