how do i get my son to stay in the coner

my son laughs at me when i put him in the coner i believe in spanking but it seems to not work either he scares me he is alot like me any help please

  • 17 months old is really too young to put him in the corner and expect him to know why. He may not understand that spanking is associated with a behavior. I firm "no" and removing him to another area is probably best at this age. Tell him what you want him to do instead of what he did and redirect him to another activity. Spanking is not a preferred way to discipline children, in my opinion.

  • i agree with lisahi. timeouts work best for children over 2 years of age. before that they cant really associate the behavior with the punishment. at this point a firm no and redirection is probably a better option. wait until he's a little older and give timeouts another try.
