If Politicians DO NOT have Ethics. What can WE the PEOPLE do to change this?

Is it too late to demand ethics?
Does anyone else think Congress has too much control over the American People?

These people are essentially in control of how much pay we get at the end of the day (amount of taxes we pay).
They are in control of the price of gas, food, and utlities (taxes again)
They set the rules for which we are to live by, but yet they do not live be the same standards.

Do you think if we change the politicians, we could change America?
What would YOU be willing to do? (run for office, work dilgently on a grassroots group to demand change, etc)

  • We hold them accountable with our votes. That is how we were supposed to do it in the first place. But so many people just ignore their local races and we get these morons in office for years who sit and collect a check and do nothing for the people they represent. People have to get involved on a more local and state level and write letters, demand their reps do their jobs and when they dont campaign against them to get them out.

  • They absolutely have too much power. You vote them out when you have a chance, and you contact them often while they are in office. Tell them you don't appreciate the way they are running our country,

  • AND, people need to REALLY study the issues and platform agendas that these politicians have! Not just vote their party line, for the person that PROMISES them whatever they want to hear! If you can't be bothered with studying the candidates you shouldn't be voting--that's how the clowns get elected in the first place.

I swear MOST people grill their significant others/potential husbands MORE than the people we elect to govern us and defend our interests! People really need to learn to read between the lines, and WHEN politicians fail us, it is our job to remind them who their constituents are, and what their job is, or boot them out!

  • Politicians also use the money from your taxes to fund social programs and to fight wars that keep us safer. It's silly to just complain about the money that you are loosing to taxes without widening the scope to where all of that money goes. Certainly there are wasteful programs, but there is where the accountability needs to come from. Our country does a lot with our money, it is not ALL just wasteful. If you really don't like it then exercise your right to vote and organize a grassroots movement to get others to exercise their rights too. It's "We the people" we give our government their power and we can take it away from those we don't agree with if we work hard enough.

  • If people are unhappy with those serving them, then the right to vote comes into play. Keep informed of all candidates on every level. Call and complain when you are not happy about an issue. I personally, think we should vote on the pay raises for our elected officials instead of them just voting for themselves. They should be paid by the amount of time spent actually working for the people. Not out to lunch and on the golf course. JMO

  • The people need to wake up and pay attention to politics at all levels. Contact your reps on issues you care about and work to vote them out if they don't get anything done. Politicians are unethical because we allow them to be.

I have considered running for office but with my personal history and living in a very conservative part of Cali, doubt I would get very far. I do keep in touch with my reps, though.

  • It seems to me you will be swimming upstream in order to get them to be ethical. I only know one politician, maybe two who are ethical and they are not on the national scene.
