Obama signs order reversing abortion-funds policy

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama has signed an executive order ending the ban on federal funds for international groups that perform abortions or provide information on the option.

Liberal groups welcomed the decision while abortion rights foes criticized the president. Known as the "Mexico City policy," the ban has been reinstated and then reversed by Republican and Democratic presidents since GOP President Ronald Reagan established it in 1984. Democrat Bill Clinton ended the ban in 1993, but Republican George W. Bush re-instituted it in 2001 as one of his first acts in office.

Obama signed it quietly, without coverage by the media, late on Friday afternoon, a contrast to the midday signings with fanfare of executive orders on other subjects earlier in the week.

Unless you pay taxes.  Then it most certainly does effect you.  Where do you think 'Federal Funds' come from?

  • He is very openly pro-abortion. That was one of the major issues of his platform. He's the co-founder of the Freedom of Choice Act, which opens the floodgate on abortion.

  • He did not say that he was against abortion. He feels that it is an issue to be discussed between the woman considering having an abortion, her family and her clergy. He trusts a woman to make the decision that is best for herself and her family. He only believes in late term abortions for mothers whose health is at risk. He wants to fund EDUCATION about abortions and not JUST ABORTIONS. You would be surprised at how far educating and showing a young woman how an abortion is performed and what an aborted fetus looks like will go in deterring unwanted pregnancies. He is not pro-abortion he is more pro-choice.

LOL. VERY Good Point. Our tax dollars are going to fund international groups who support abortion. I can think of much better ways to spend our tax dollars. Like for the greater good of our own citizens? Job creation? Ohh wait, we have to PRINT MONEY we don't have for that! To the tune of nearly one trillion dollars... ::insert the sound of the value of the American Dollar being flushed::

  • Let me edit one thing. I apologize...he did say that his beliefs are against abortion but that it was an issue to be left to a woman and her family and her clergy. I apologize...I was typing too quick.
