My week old baby dislikes my breast milk. She likes formula but it binds her up. Any suggestions?

We have tried mixing the two but then still hates the taste.

  • What does she do when you offer breast milk?

  • She won't drink my breast milk. She makes a face and spits it out.

  • From the breast, or from a bottle?

Answer by Krysta622 at 9:42 PM on Jan. 23, 2009

  • Bottle, she is preemie and can't take the breast

  • Personally, I'd first try to get the baby to latch on. See an IBCLC, or go to LLL meetings. They can help. And if it were me, I'd not offer formula at all. I'd just nurse or offer expressed breast milk. But, that's me.

  • Baby Pear Juice. Diluted. 1-2 oz/day. Or adult prune same way. Good luck momma!

  • Check out your diet. Flavors from the food you are eating will influence the taste of your milk...

  • Please do not give your 1 week old Karo Syrup or juice. Good God. Karo Syrup causes botulism and babies should NOT have anything but breastmilk for 6 months. Are you working on getting her to latch on? You may be eating something that makes your breastmilk taste weird to her like garlic or broccoli. Taste the breastmilk and then taste the formula and tell me she prefers formula! lol I can't imagine. Are you seeing an IBCLC?

  • I agree. I do not believe in doctors saying that a preemie cannot nurse. My daughter was a 34 weeker and they told me that same crap. She nursed when I wanted to put the time into it.
