I'm asking this because I see people saying that we're turning into a socialist country. I am not a political person at all, and honestly have no understanding of what it means. Why is it a bad thing?

Read that article. I think it will explain to you why so many people are alarmed by the direction our country is headed.
Socialism is bad because it gives too much power to the government and the government is already corrupt as it is. It's also pretty much inept and can't accomplish what the private sector can accomplish on many different levels.

Socialism can never work here in America and I would never want it. We would give up a lot more freedoms as our Government got bigger and controlled our lives more than it does now. We need a smaller Government with less programs and our people need to learn to help themselves and others. Not all socialists are communists but all communists are socialists. Not something I want.
