Does your child attend a 'cyber school'?

There are major things going on with our schools here for next year: closings and consolidating. My children would have to attend a middle school that is attached to the worst high school in the city; drugs, violence, smoking, sex swearing- everything I don't want my 12 year old to be around.

I have been looking into a state cyber school and was wondering what your experiences with that type of education are.

Thanks!

Check the cyber school carefully. I know many of the cyber schools in my state (PA) didn't meet AYP. While a cyber school might keep your kids safer, you still want them to progress.

  • We use an online charter school through K12. It exceeds state requirements. I don't know how older grades work - my will-be 6th grader won't start til this fall - but the younger grades is much more parent taught than later on. We're very happy and will be beginning our 2nd year with them this fall.

  • rkoloms... my oldest was lucky enough to go to great schools and my younger ones WERE as well. We just found out that they have to close some schools and because of that, ALL the 6-8th graders will now be shoved into one school where there is hardly room for the students attending there now. It's in a bad neighborhood and is shared with a high school where horrible things happen. My kids are honor students, want to learn and I fear for their safety as well as the quality of education they receive if they are forced to go where the district wants to send them. It sucks...
