  • Is there an acute care clinic in your area? They are generally way cheaper than ER and sometimes insurance will cover it. Pain could be nothing, round ligament pain is very common in pregnancy but at 5 weeks it's probably too early for that. To be sure, I would go to the doctor.

  • Call your OB and ask for advice. If your OB sends you to the ER, it might be covered. If you have a nurse line with your insurance that could provide some direction. Those calls are documented and if they tell you to go, you can go. Even though plans say they only pay for life-threatening visits (note: broken bones are NOT considered life-threatening), often there are caveats such as "prudent person" language - i.e., if a prudent person would visit based on symptoms for a possible life-threatening condition, the denial can be appealed.

I have never had a tubal pregnancy but DH's cousin has had two in the past couple years and both times there were life-threatening problems. I don't mean to scare you, but I don't think you're nuts for worrying. Again, I really don't know the symptoms for that though...

Call doc, call nurse line if available. I used to work in the insurance industry, so message me if I can be of any help at

  • My guess would be an ovarian cyst. I had on with my daughter right around 5 weeks. I did go to the ER and they found it on an ultrasound. They said it would burst and may or may not hurt when it did so. The pains got less and by my 20 week ultrasound it was gone.
