  • In moderation. It is the mercury level you worry about but one serving no more than once a week is okay- or it was according to my OB 4 years ago. ;0)

  • As long as you're not eating canned tuna 3 times a day, every day, you're just fine! Everything in moderation. The only fish I was told to stay away from completely during pregnancy was swordfish, king mackerel, shark, and tilefish because they have extremely high levels of mercury. I ate tuna occasionally, tilapia almost weekly, and shrimp quite a bit with my last pregnancy, and I just had a healthy baby girl in December.

  • Canned tuna has less mercury than fresh. I was told up to 12 ounces a week was safe to eat. Good thing too - I craved tuna noodle casserole BAD.

  • A can of tuna once a month won't be a problem. You also want to stay away from cold cuts, because of the sodium content.
