When to start solids?

What age did you start your child on cereal? At what age did you start them on baby food? Or did you start them at the same time? My son is three months old and was bottle feed, so the doctor said i can start him on ceral at four months.

  • I just started my baby on cereal 2 days ago and she's 4 months. She LOVED it and seems to be sleeping better too. I figure anytime YOU think is right, not anytime CAFEMOMS think is right =)

    Good luck!

  • I started cereal around 6 months and solids around 8 months.

A baby really doesn't need to start any solids until 12 months, though.

  • We started giving Zackary Avocado at 5 months. He was a little on the bigger side, so the doctor said it was okay to start early.

  • We started my son on baby cereal at 2 months because he had stomach problems. He did really well & also slept better during the night. We didn't start the other baby food until about 4 months & then solids 6-8 months. Every child is different and will react differently.:)

  • The baby shouldn't have solids until at least 6 months of age. The American Academy of Pediatrics suggest delaying until at least 6 months for several reasons. For more information try the following link

  • We started cereal at 4 months and baby food shortly thereafter. Finger and table foods were started at 6 months, they were completely on table foods by 9 months.

If you want more information I suggest visiting the AAP site....

  • i introduced cereal at 3 months, mostly just a table spoon in his bottle a few times a day. He was eating every hour to hour and a half but wouldn't take more food. Shortly after all bottles had to have cereal or he refused to eat them, at 4 months the pedi suggested food and cereal. I started to give it to him on occasion and gradually got it to a routine.
