If a charm is made out of "metal" what does that mean exactly?

I'm making a necklace for a lady who is allergic to Nickle. I'm having a hard time finding the appropriate pendant made out of silver or silver plate. I can't seem to find any information on what exactly "metal" means in the description on the pendant packaging or online.

So does anyone know what metal "metal" is made out of?

  • You don't see warnings on jewerly so much for nickle, but if you look for the hypoallergenic ones, you'll see that they specifically have like less than .05% nickle in them. Just 'metal' I would think would be something like peweter.

  • It's usually a blend if a particular one isn't specified.

  • Would there be a warning to people allergic to nickle if is was significant enough to produce a reaction?

    Thanks :)

  • most likely it's a low grade metal... I wouldn't use it, it probably has nickel in it.

unfortunately I have yet to see warnings on jewelry as far as nickel goes, which sucks because I'm allergic to it.

    stick with Sterling Silver 925
