When did you move your baby into his/her own room?

My baby is going to be 7 months old in a week. We are considering moving him into his own room soon. How old were your babies when they went into their own rooms, and why did you decide that was a good time?

  • I moved mine into her own room at 2 mo. because she was sleeping eight hours at night consistently. I figured I'd move her before she was old enough to realize she was being moved ... especially since I wasn't getting up multiple times at night with her.

  • At about 2 weeks. I couldn't sleep - every little noise, snuffle, snort, breath would jolt me to full wakefulness.

There is no "best" time. It is just what you are comfortable with, what works for you, your baby, your family.

  • Both my boys were about 4 months old. They both started sleeping for longer periods of time when they were in their room. It made us all happier. I agree with kaycee14 just do what ever you feel comfortable with. You can always move him back to your room if it does not work out. I would just take it slow.

  • Since the day she came home from the hospital...

  • 2 days home from the hospital. So she was 3 days old.

She sleeps great, we sleep great, I didn't see a need to keep her in our room any longer. Especially because she started sleeping through the night at 8 weeks.

  • I don't like not being near my babies when they sleep. They move out of my bed at around two years old and out of my room at three.

  • I breastfed and my son stayed in my bed with me at night until he was 4 months old. At 4 months I tried to put him in his room, but we both were not ready, so i moved his crib into my room and he slept there every night until he was 6 months. At 6 months i moved him into his room and have never looked back. It was a smooth transmission, but i had be willing to let him cry it out for the first night or two, but this did not last long.
