My husband and I have been together 3 years. We have a toddler and an infant. I am a stay at home mom due to our kids having to attend therapeutic services 5+ times a week. We would love to welcome another child into our home but have heard numerous things about how we can't due to the fact that we're on food stamps. No we don't want to adopt to get a check or anything, we want to be able to help another child out. We also have heard many different numbers when it comes to the price of going through a public agency. Could someone clear that up as to what it would most likely cost? One last question, we live in Missouri and we found out about two brothers up for adoption in Florida, would that cost more? We honestly don't care if we adopt boy or girl, black or white. Just want to give love to a child in need of it. Please no hateful comments.Answer Question

I think it's great that you're wanting to help a child in need but I have to be honest and say that my foster care agency would not have approved anyone for foster care or adoption that needed food stamps. You have to show that you can not only support your current family but also have enough for other children. Also with foster care you will not be receiving a stipend check for sometime after the child is in your home. You will have to support that child fully on your own until that happens. Also not every child adopted through foster care gets an adoption stipend, only special needs and I've heard that states are getting less generous with these funds. Good luck and remember that just because now may not be the right time doesn't mean that it never will be.
