why does my cat dig so much??

He gets in the litter box and digs like he's looking for gold. It makes a bit of a mess around the pan. Any ideas why he does this??

  • It's in their nature, it's part of that wild animal instinct to cover up their business so they can't be found by a predator.

  • Okay, but he digs for quite a while. He digs a hole, goes, then digs and digs and digs to cover, and in the process he sometimes uncovers it.
