Are there any breastfed babies who do not loose weight at the hospital?

I was wondering if there are any breastfed babies that do not loose body weight before they are discharged from the hospital. I know I get a longer time in the hospital b/c I have c-sections. But even with that, my milk did not come in until the day I went home last time. I know colostrum has all the nutrients the baby needs. So, why is it such a big deal when babies loose weight at the hospital when they are breastfed?

  • It is normal for all babies to loose weight immediately after birth.  However anything more than 1% of their birth weight is a cause for concern.

  • My formula fed sons lost weight, too. It's not just breastfed babies.

LOL sorry typo, it was pre-coffee.

Yes it is 10%!  I discovered that when I had my first and she lost 13%  and sent the midwives in a tizzy.
