My MIL is Japanese, and we try to incorporate some of the traditions of her culture in our celebrations. Our baby will be one next month, and one of the traditions on the first birthday is to set a bunch of objects out that relate to certain careers and allow the child to select an item. Some say the object she first TOUCHES is the career path she will choose...others say it is the first one she actually PICKS UP. It is just something fun.
I need ideas for objects though...here is what I was thinking:
Calculator - finance or accounting
Pencil - writer
Tool - builder/construction
I would love your ideas!
paint brush for an artist? something 'techy' for a computer/technical job? like maybe a play laptop or a play phone? what about a stethoscope or such for a medical career? that sounds like a really neat tradition!
