  • Y'all should be getting an allowance on his pay towards food costs. If you need more financial assistance I would try using military programs first. You should be able to see one of the financial advisors on base for free who can help you with budgeting and would know of any programs for help within the military you qualify for. It's usually just a matter of finding out what programs are there and getting help with the paperwork to apply. If you can't get help on base, then I would try public assistance but there's a chance you might not qualify if his base pay plus all incentive pay (BAS,BAH, dependent pay) exceeds the income limits for your state. You may want to consider living in on base housing if money is really tight. It will cut your expenses dramatically and really isn't that bad.

  • The ladies above have some great suggestions about SNAP and FSSA, but I would like to add that you DO qualify for WIC. Call your local office and make an appointment to apply. You will even get a WIC package for yourself while pregnant, then you will get assistance with formula if you use it when baby is born, or your benefits will continue if you breastfeed.

  • For regular food stamps your gross income is used to determine if you are eligible. FSSA (Family Subsistence Supplemental Allowance) is only for service members on active duty receiving full or partial BAS. For FSSA your income is looked at AFTER your housing allowance is deducted.
