Manila builds wall to hide poor from anti-poverty group
Nothing to see here, folks, move along now. That's the message the capital of the Philippines is sending as it builds a temporary wall to keep a massive slum hidden from view. Government officials are trying to conceal the urban squalor from delegates who are in town to attend a conference on -- wait for it -- fighting poverty. A presidential spokesman says, "Any country will do a little fixing up before a guest comes," adding, "we are not trying to keep the poor out of the picture." Funny, it seems like that's exactly what's going on.
I find this so strange.
