Fish

What are the easiest fish to take care of? I just bought a 10 gallon tank. The filter was about $16 but the guy at the pet store said it would work fine. I bought 3 little fish i forget what kind but they died next day. & my son was so excited when we brought them home. He loved them! We set there most of the day. I have a 4yr old and do not want to keep replacing the fish! I can't heat the water or spend $10 on a fish just so it can die.

I know bettas are easy and i plan on gettin on of those but in a different tank.

  • TETRA fish are the easiest to take care of - if you want a group of fish!! They live a very long time and are very resilient fish! :)
    I have had some Tetra fish in my tank for over 4 years now~ WOW ~ and they are still goin' strong! :o)

  • Did you condition the water to take the clorine out before you put the fish in? Let the tank run at least a day, condition the water and then add the fish. Do not overfeed. Each week remove some of the water with a tank vacuum if possible and replace with treated water that is the same temperature.

  • thanks everyone! i think i am going to get a betta. i these fish died because the tank was filled about 10mins before i put them in there. i thought it was perfect. not to cold not to hot and they are tetras. i had 3 all died same day. =(

  • gold fish are about 30 cents each and last a while if you get them from a pet store and not walmart. those bug-eyed fish last a while too and my daughter loves hers (i think they're called moores, not sure though)

  • Be sure you tank has been up and running for a few days before adding fish. I would suggest convicts (ciclids)
    they are fairly easy and fun to watch. You can get an algea eater for the tank as well. Do not overfeed and give sheter such as a rock with a hole big enough for one or both to get in. If you are luck you may get to watch them have babies. They are good parents.

  • A single male beta is great and easy to care for. Just be sure if you put him with other fish, they aren't fin-nippers. Ask your pet store if they are.

    Mollies, tetras and neons are pretty easy and inexpensive. You'll want small fish with that small of a tank.
