What happens to all the stuff...?

What happens to all the stuff on a person's lawn if they are evicted but no one claims or takes it?

It happened in my subdivision today and my neighbors and I don't know what to do. I can see it becoming an eyesore. Apparently the owner knew it was happening because a few days ago she had a moving truck and was taking things. Apparently she left behind the stuff she didn't want. There are nice big items too I'm sure people might take yet the house is in a cou de sac so not many people will see it unless told about it. Another neighbor and I were talking about calling salvation army to get it but they are not a clean up service. Who usually cleans up after something like this? She is a very nice lady and I'm very sorry this happened to her. She has a son in the same grade as my daughter. We've lived in this subdivision for 3 years and she even longer. This damn economy sucks.

  • There are landlord/tenat laws for this. Unless you have the OK from the landlord, or whoever evicted her, DO NOT touch any of the stuff left behind. It could be considered theft.

My dad owns several houses and I've grown up hearing him bitch about those laws and what he can/can't do when he need to evict someone.

  • The property owner should take care of it, all 'stuff' left becomes the property of the owner.
