craiglist scams?

My fiance is selling his laptop on craigslist and this is one of the responses he got -

Many thanks for the quick response.Am not in state presently to
complete this transaction with you in person,am currently in Holland
on a Business trip.Am willing to purchase this item for a Orphanage
home located in overseas and i will be adding extra $150 to cover the
shipment cost. The payment will be made via my PayPal account. So kindly
get back to me with your PayPal account ID so i can effect the payment
into your account ASAP.
I hope to hear from you soon
Regards.

Does this sound like a scam or no? cause i kind of think it does... but paypal is usually very reliable.. what do you all think?

  • since all he's asking for is the email address for paypal, I think I would set up a new paypal account with a brand new gmail address and use it. it's only an email address. he's not asking for any other info. I'd just set up the new one just to be safe though.

  • I sell on CL alot and one of the things I am specific about is being able to pick the item up for certain things. Other things when I see the payment in PP and transfer it to my account and it is there for a couple of weeks I then send it and I let them know that. Most banks have notices on the windows about scams like this. I would specifically ad to the ad pickup only.

  • Its a scam. I have almost been scammed on Craigslist. Someone sent me a 1500.00 cashiers check, I did not cash it. It's a long story. Only sell locally and take cash only.
