How are these NOT mini "Gitmo's"?

Obama allowing for CIA sites to continue to operate temporary detention facilities abroad.
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/jan/28/obama-order-allows-short-term-cia-sites/
President Obama's executive order closing CIA "black sites" contains a little-noticed exception that allows the spy agency to continue to operate temporary detention facilities abroad...
The exception is evidence that the new administration, while announcing an end to many elements of the Bush "war on terror," is leaving itself wiggle room to continue some of its predecessor's practices regarding terrorist suspects....

  • Isn't it obvious that Obama is closing the detention facility MOST associated with the "evil Bush empire?!" Closing Gitmo is more of a SYMBOLIC gesture to signal to all of his supporters that "he meant what he said, and he said what he meant?!" Should we close ALL detention facilities around the world, and let all of the little terrorists run free?!

  • I think lorikeet is statng that Obama is making a symbolic(political) move rather than a logistic move.

  • No shes saying the closing of Gitmo was symbolic but not what this administration is really doing behind closed doors. By keeping the prisons open it gives Obama an out to place the prisoners there while telling his minions hes closing Gitmo and ending the war on terror. In fact hes not doing that. He is just hiding it and making those who believe everything he says think hes doing something when hes not.

  • Sites to hold suspects TEMPORARILY must exist...what else would we do with them? The issue is getting them a trial within a reasonable amount of time...not holding them indefinitely without giving them a chance to defend themselves in a court of law. That is the American way, you know.

  • Gitmo was "temporary" too

It's nice to know we're maintaining the status quo
