She doesnt like baby food!

My (nearly) 7-month old doesnt seem to like baby food. She was doing fine with baby cereal but then stopped opening her mouth for us. And when we actually do get some food in she just makes "raspberry" sounds and spits it allover us. Cute, but weve been trying to get her to open her mouth for about a month and its getting tireing. How can we get her to want to open her mouth for the food?

  • Well, she doesn't NEED it, so I'd just hold off for a while. In a month or two, try again, or try table foods at that time. Don't sweat it.

  • Of course she doesn't like baby food - have you tried it? Yeurrgh.

    Baby-led-weaning. See -

At 6 months - my daughter went from only breast milk - to eating what we eat at our meal times. We have never pureed her foods, we have never mashed them - we have NEVER spoon fed her. At 6 months she started picking up foods in her hands and eating them. By 9 months she used a spoon herself - at at 13 months she started using a fork.
She's now almost 16 months and will eat anything. Always with a fork or spoon - and has never turned down what food we give her because it is what we are also eating.

Babies are done no favours by being spoon fed, or by eating something other than what their parents eat - the way he eat it.

Have a look on the website I provided and you will see there are many many babies who have never been fed baby food, and have never been spoon fed, and are much happier!

  • my DS isn't fond of babyfood either..he wouldnt even attempt to try the rice cereal..we recently tried oatmeal instead and he LOVED it. Try something different, maybe even puree some real veggies and see if she would eat them then.

  • just hold off and try again later.
also try some of the things ladysavage suggested.

we practice baby-led weaning and it's a big success for all involved!

  • Make your own "baby" food out of what you are eating.. it's easy, quick and MUCH tastier!
