  • Why subjugate at all?
    >>>
We all subjugate to some extent. You subjugate, I subjugate, it's what we subjugate to that differs.
I do not feel in the least enslaved by my church. I do more for it's forward movement than most men. I am a foot soldier, in the trenches. Daily bringing my message, through my actions, to the people I meet.
It's ok when a man puts forth an idea or law you like. Like going to war, killing innocents, etc. It's only when they piss you off that the hair on the back of your necks stand up.

  • I found the article on the extreme side. I am not young and yet I was raised in a fundamentalist Christian family exactly equal with my brothers. I always laughed and said my parents were equal opportunity parents. And they were not unusual in our church.

As to the baseball game issue, the statements in that particular article are incorrect in that baseball is, very much, a contact sport. Unless they play some soft version in Arizona.

But, anywho, not surprised at this feminist's blog post. Extreme seems to be where the feminist movement lives. Which as a member of the first generation of women to bust the glass ceiling in my male-dominated field, drives me bonkers. Extremist views hurt women's causes, they don't help them.

  • Anon, not all men treat women badly don't generalize, I for one have had one for the last 40 years who has always treated me kindly and with a 50/50 partnership, just because you might have had a bad relationship doesn't mean all men are the same, I for one believe that if you have one of those men, it is your fault for putting up with it!

If my man of 40 years did anything to make the hairs on the back stand up, he would have never lasted that long with me.....

  • Men were a$$hats and using women long before Christianity was born.

Encouraging children to ignore their parents, or outright defy them, only sets them up for bad experiences. Childhood is supposed to be a time to learn, hopefully through experiences ~ and have at least some hope of the consequences being controlled. The only things accomplished by defiance are a constant argument and no learning.

As for subjugation, anyone who chooses a god does so, whether it's NP not being allowed to ask for anything, or a Wiccan who does no harm. Everyone is allowed to choose, and to rail against Christianity as 'too subjugating' or as an excuse for pathetic men (rather than make the men shape up/ship out), only shows that the problem isn't Christianity ~ it's 'your' hatred of Christianity or 'your' need for a scapegoat for your own failings. Being true to yourself as a woman doesn't involve demeaning or blaming others.

  • As Bob Dylan says

    "Gotta Serve Somebody"

You may be an ambassador to England or France You may like to gamble, you might like to dance You may be the heavyweight champion of the world You may be a socialite with a long string of pearls.

But you're gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed You're gonna have to serve somebody, It may be the devil or it may be the Lord But you're gonna have to serve somebody.

I am not put down by force or intimidated to not ask for things, I follow the common sense conclusion of rational thought and the process of respect. If your "theory" was correct, I would be sitting here desperately wanting to ask for things left and right, only refraining from doing so out of fear. I have no interest in asking in the first place. A Wiccan is not forced or intimidated to do no harm (talk about a contradiction) - that would imply they're all screaming, frothing at the mouth, just waiting to do harm in the first place.

OTOH, how many times have we read here that without the Bible, people would be killing, stealing, lying, etc? Just because people who lack self-control tend to flock to the same religion you practice, does not make their characteristics universal to all.

  • NP, you have an amazing ability to twist just about anything, but it's still twisted. You 'choose' ~ freely ~ to accept a set of rules that are not the same that everyone else obeys. That's not a bad thing in spite of your attempt to make my observation of it a bad thing. Same goes for 'do no harm' if one overrides that urge to high five someone in the face that really needs it. Most people would slap the person, whether physically or verbally. Many would at least mentally slap others as they walk away. A true Wiccan practicer would not. Again, this is not a bad thing.

It is a conscious choice to behave in a certain way, consistently. People make those choices freely because they believe it's a better way. It makes no difference if it is myself, you, or any other woman here. If 'you' are comfortable and happy with your choice, that's all that matters.

For that matter, the same can be said about clubs, hobbies, etc.
