1 Bump

My kitten seems sick. Can any cat owners please read and give your advice?

She is 8 weeks old. I had her at the vet exactly one week ago--her first visit with vaccines. She seemed perfectly fine.

Today she is lethargic and had diarrhea. Her meow seems strained or hoarse.

We put dewormer on her the day before yesterday.

I am clueless. Anyone ever have a sick kitten before? What was it?

  • My first inclination is to suspect the dewormer. They're full of chemicals and some kittens cannot handle that.

Did the vet do it or tell you to do it?

  • I did a search and digestive issues/lethargy are a side effect of Revolution.  If she isn't better tomorrow you should contact your vet for advice.

Here's the link to the article I read

  • The vet did. He gave me a sample of Revolution for cats 5 lbs and under.

  • Thank you! I sure hope so, too. She is our first pet and we love our Trinket dearly.

  • Definitely could be the dewormer and, if so, things should get better pretty quickly.

Are her eyes and nose clear? If either are runny, that would point to an upper respiratory infection...which would require antibiotics.

I'd call the vet tomorrow morning and give updated symptoms over the phone.

  • How long have you had the kitten? Had you just gotten her when you took her to the vet? Did she come from a shelter? It can take a week for some things to show up so something could have been brewing and then finally broke. I would definitely get her checked out

  • It could be from the dewormer or an upper respiratory infection. After vaccines, pets do get lethargic but it lasts only about 2 days. I would bring your kitten in to the vet asap

  • One week after the vaccines could very well be the vaccines. You gave dewormer after the vax right? Was fine before the vax but nt after?
