If you were to adopt, would you have a cut-off age of the child?

  • I did adopt several years ago. Our cut off age was 8 simply because we did not want a child that was born before we would have been 18. Anything older then that we felt it might have been more like being a sibling then a parent. At the age I am now I wouldn't have a cut off. We ended up adopting 3 at 5, 6 & 7. What a ride for first time parents.

  • I don't think I would have a specific age limit, but I think I would prefer a child under 10. There is still plenty of time to really connect w/ them and that's an age you can do a lot of fun activites w/ them as well.

  • preferably, we'd adopt a boy, somewhere around our ds's age, within a 2-3yr age-range. if we were fostering, and felt we should adopt the child, we would, no matter the age.
i had a client foster a 16yo, whose 4 siblings were also in the state program...they never adopted him, but at 22yo, he's their son.

  • No... I think when we decide it our the right time for us to adopt we will do do based on the right 'fit' for us. We would like to some day adopt an autistic child who would otherwise be left in foster care. The child who would benefit most from our care and works well in our family whether they are 3 or 15 is who we would adopt.

  • I naturally would prefer a baby. I would like a child 5 or below butI feel that I would probably be able to adopt a child of any age.

  • For our first child, yes. We wanted an infant. However, in the future, DH and I would like to adopt children of all ages, especially the older ones. Most people don't want to adopt children over 6 years of age. For the tweens and teens, there is almost no hope. I know they are more complicated the older they get, but I don't care. EVERY child deserves a chance at a normal, healthy family.

  • I would prefer a child that is already potty-trained and ready to enter kindergarten, so probably around 5 years old. I don't think I could go through the infant/toddler/preschooler stage again.

  • I would actually be more interested in the older kids because I know they are least likely to be adopted otherwise.
