My DD is 5 and will start kindergarten next year, is there anything else she should know before going in?

She knows:
How to write her ABCs upper case and lower case, recognizes all the letters and knows their sounds, she can write her name and a few other words, she can read some words, and spells a few words like mom, dad, cat, dog etc, she can write all the numbers, she can count to at least 30, she can do basic addition. She has never been in school but I packed her a lunch in a lunch box to eat at home to see if she was able to handle all of it herself (putting the straw in the juice box, getting things out all that) and she was fine. Is there anything else she needs to know?

  • She should know her phone number and street address, both of her parents first and last names and how work on tying shoes. Otherwise... she sounds way ahead of the game and will do fine in Kinder.

  • Thanks, she knows mine and my DH's names and her bio dad's name, she knows part of her address (she knows our appt #). We will def work on the rest.

  • Teacbh her how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It is good to teach autonomy early. ;o) You can make them in fun shapes and she will want to help you the more you show her it can be fun to pack a lunch.
