  • It depends. They can do blood cultures for a specific infection, in which case it might not show another infection; it will just show that you don't have the one they are checking for. Or they can take the blood and do several different cultures for various things. The best way to find out what will really happen is to ask your dr. They know what they are looking for and what kinds of tests they are ordering and are the best people to ask about these kinds of things.

  • Blood cultures only show infections that are sever enough to have entered your bloodstream. They show sepsis. You may have other problems/infections they haven't discovered yet. Have they done a urine? Have they done a CBC, Chest X ray (the cbc will show, wbc counts, rbc counts, etc.) You may have a strange virus? Have you been overseas or exposed to someone overseas. The poss are endless. It could also be a cancer, Just go back to the doc for further w/u.
