colic gassy or what i just dont know

My SIL is at her wits end so im woundering if any of you mommys have a idea here.
She just had a baby 4 weeks ago. She breastfed him for about 2 weeks but hes a piggy and she dryed up in one boob out of no where and then the other one just wasnt producing much so she went to a bottle. No biggy but he is happy guy all day he eats about 3 oz every 2 hours. He isnt gassy or anything durring the day but at night its like hes in the worst pain or something. He lays in his crib and just grunts and farts and cries so she picks him up and tries to burp him again but to avail it doesnt seem to help. Could this be a formula issue or a bottle issue maybe he is getting to much air when he eats.
You can tell his belly hurts him at night cause he clenches his little fist and his face gets all red like hes straining to go poop. Hes not constipated he poops atleast 3 times daily and they arnt hard.

  • She may want to try using Mylicon drops in his bottles, or maybe even some Gripe water. Dr. Brown's bottles are supposed to be great for keeping baby from getting too gassy, or even the Playtex drop-ins bottles. Just push all the air out of the liner before giving baby the bottle. When dd was colicky laying her across my forearm with her tummy on the heel of my hand would make her fall asleep.

  • she should ask his doctor.
it could be gas caused by the kind of formula or it could be colic, especially if it's happening at the same time everyday.

She is using playtex drop in liner bottles and also dr browns doesnt seem to be helping. Thanks for the in put though.

  • Another thing that my SIL taught me was to give just a little bit of olive oil with a pinch of salt.  She also took a wash cloth and wet it with really warm water, but not hot, put it in a sandwich bag and applied it to her tummy, then swaddled her really good.

  • If he only does it at night it could be cause of colic have her try turning on a vaccum and see if that makes him stop
