• 4 x 36 = 144
so each flooring unit is 144 square INCHES
12 inches = 1 foot
144 / 12 = 12
so each flooring unit is 12 square FEET
381 / 12 = 31.75
so you need 32 units of flooring

• Wow thanks a bunch "FELIPESMOM" does that mean I need 32 strips in total to cover 381 sq ft?

• Yes - but you won't use ALL of the last one, because you really only need 31.75.

Answer by FelipesMom at 3:22 PM on May. 31, 2012

• Actually she did that wrong. 36 x 4 = 144 Square inches
1 square foot equal 12 inch x 12 inch = 144 square inches
So you need 381 planks plus 10% for cuts. or 419-4120 square feet.
How many square feet in a box? Or do you buy them by the plank?

• Let's check my math though...

If you have 32 strips, and each one is 4 inches by 36 inches...

Then they would cover an area with a length of 32 x 36 inches and a width of 32 x 4 inches, right?

So that's 32 x 36 inches = 1152 inches by 32 x 4 inches = 128 inches.

So the area would be 1152 inches x 128 inches, which is 147456 square inches.

Divide by twelve to get feet, and... hm..

NO THAT's WRONG!!!

sorry!

recalculating...

• yes exactly what lovemydog said - my mistake was I assumed 12 square inches made up one square foot. But really, if you take 12 little squares and put them together to make a big square, it's only 3 inches by 4 inches!!! And a square foot is 12 inches by 12 inches.

Thanks, lovemydog, for catching that even before I did :o)

• Also I didn't know about the 10% for cuts!!! Good tip lovemydog!!!

• They just sell them individually by the plank, each one is .99 cents.
