Frozen chicken in a crock pot?

I didn't defrost the whole chicken I was planning on making for dinner tonight. Could I put it in the crockpot while it's still frozen?

Any suggestions on what I can put in there with it? I was thinking onion soup mix and wine..

  • You could put it in frozen, but you could also defrost it in the microwave. I make a chicken stew in the crock with potatoes, carrots, onions and celery. You could add a little thyme or whatever other seasoning your family likes. It is a meal in a pot! Oh, and I usually use a little canned chicken broth rather than water.

  • No don't put a whole frozen chicken in the crocpot. I took a cooking class with a nutritionist who said it isn't safe. Because the food sits at an unsafe it takes the slow cooker too long to get a frozen chunk of meat to a safe temperature, and there is a high risk of dangerous bacteria forming before the meat reaches a healthy temperature.

Defrost it in the microwave then put it in the crockpot. It's not worth taking a chance.
