We are in the process of losing our house and our 2 vehicles. We owe more than they are worth. Haven't paid any bills in 3 months, about to be 4. The bank account is negative over $150, and going further due to fees accruing. Haven't had any work since January 30th, that's when my DH was laid off. We've tried several times to get unemployment but they keep saying they don't have the right paperwork, but never tell us whats missing when we call. We do receive food stamps, got them just last month. DH and I make a point of applying to at least 10-20 job postings day online. I get interviews every now and then, but never a job. I've gone to many county employment agencies and they tell me they cannot help me unless I already have a job. The church told us they cannot financially help us because we are so far behind, they offer food boxes but I will not take them since we do get the food stamps, and maybe another family does not. DH is going to talk to someone at the VA about his resume later this week, in the hopes that fixing it will help him get more interviews.
Bill collectors call and ask how we are surviving. Which is by the way the worst thing I've ever been asked. One lady suggested selling our things, but the truth is we don't have much to begin with. I am planning a yard sale, to sell some clothes and furniture-thats all I have to offer. But what else can I do?
I'm trying so hard to find work, and so is DH. So be nice, sometimes good people get in a bad spot. We do not smoke or drink. We do not have family that can or will help us. I'm just scared. We have three kids; 7, 4 and 3. I'm trying to be calm but Sunday is so slow day for job postings, but not for bill collectors. What more can I do?

I worked in a law office for over 6 years. While laws vary from state to state, it is imperative that you get a lawyer to handle you financial affairs ASAP!! (Bankruptcy is better than being homeless) It's very possible they can help you from losing anything. In the meantime, w/ both of you out of work, you should be able to qualify for some types of assistance. After you call a lawyer tomorrow, call your local United Way. They have access to many different places to help people who are stuck in situations like yours. My heart goes out to you & your family. Best of luck to you.
