  • depends on what kinda American business we're talking about.

local run and/or small businesses, agree.

big business that manufacture all of their products overseas, that skirt legality and lose citizen investors money, that cheat & abuse their clients, that fire employees so they can get their un-needed bonus, disagree.

  • For the most part I agree. Even businesses that sell products manufactured in other countries (it would be near impossible to get around this), when you shop at these establishments you are still contributing to a profit margin and when enough people shop there it can help create additional jobs. I don't think there are as many predatory employers as others might think, but then again I don't consider a lot of what happens in business as personal. I think it's usually a financial decision that one side takes personally.

  • My dream is not business. This is sloganeering used to justify all sorts of abuses.

  • I know of people who said to boycott different gas stations when the oil spills happened but I came back to these were my friends and neighbors who would be hurt because it was their business. Sure it may have been a franchise but they had their money invested. To me I support my friends and neighbors in their dreams. That is the American dream. It's not some big corporation it's the little guy that may have a tiny little piece of that corporation. Yes BP may be British but there are many Americans who own all those thousands of gas stations. Honda may be a foreign car but are sold by businesses that are local, repaired locally, etc and those business are trying for the American dream.

  • While I agree on the concept, it can also be a nightmare when businesses move overseas, or stay here but don't hire or expand. There's still way too many people unemployed, underemployed, or who have simply given up.

  • SWasson, the slogan isn't speaking to your dream or any individual's dream. It is speaking to The American Dream. Do you claim to not know what that is?
