I need to create a check out system for the Parent Resource Room at work. Any suggestions?

There are books, games, activities that the parents can check out. What is the best way to do this? I have notecards and the library card pockets as well as labels. Just not sure how to go about organizing this big task.

  • Well, there's the real old fashioned way. Each item has a card with its title, etc, and you keep files on everyone who checks out, put the card in that person's file. Create those files as people check the items out.

  • gdiamante, what information should I get from the parents? I don't have access to the online campus portal. So I was thinking, their name and phone number, along with their student's name, teacher, and grade level that way I can look it up in the book in the front office.

  • Yes, exactly those things. But beware... I was reading some teacher sites and every teacher who did this sort of thing reported the same problem as probably every public library on the planet... materials disappeared.
