Which birth control method do you recommend besides the PILL?

I am 39 and looking for a convenient birth control tht won't affect my periods. Which one do you recommend?

  • IUD. . . it has worked wonderfully with me, very little side effects, most almost unnoticeable, and u can choose the no hormone option if u like.

  • Sorry, but I have to LOL at the "abstinence" answer.

    Since most BC methods use a form of hormones, it may not be easy to find one that won't affect your periods. I have a seizure disorder, and am completely intolerant of estrogen, so my best option is an IUD. I use Mirena, which has levonorgestrel, but no estrogen, and I have never gained weight or had any problems, but it has made my periods stop. The copper IUD (I think its called ParaGuard) does not have any hormones, so I dont know if your periods would be affected or not, but it is good for 10 years of birth control. Your OB may have some other options for you as well. Good luck!

  • Abstinence. Seriously.

    LOL I have two surprises from a condom that didn't break (and was used correctly) and from NFP (conceived on day EIGHT of my cycle).
