I'm wanting to make this for dinner tomorrow night, but I'm concerned with the cooking time

Will a whole chicken really cook in a crockpot in as little as 3-4 hours on high???

  • it will if it is completely thawed and not terribly cold. i usually go 6-8 hours on low from frozen and it falls apart.

  • Yup it will. I do it all the time, although I've never done that recipe. It's falling apart tender, too. I wouldn't stick an entire frozen chicken into a crockpot. The time spent at an unsafe temperature is too high... plenty of time for bacteria to breed.

  • Depends on the size of the chicken,, I would say if it is under 8 llbs,, your good to go,, if it is bigger, save it for tomorrow and cook it on low.

  • Really????? Why? I have never cooked a whole chicken before. How do I tell the difference between a fryer and hen? All it says on the package is Pilgrim's Whole Chicken. No added hormones and No Sterioids.

  • Give yourself 5-6 hours if you are worried it will not be done. if your crock pot has a warm setting, you can turn it down to that when it is done.
