Someone came to the door the other day...

It was a pair of gals from Jehovahs Witness and I told them I was in between churches at the moment. I didn't want to blast them with my beliefs in reincarnation because I think they'd find it so outlandish and frankly, I wasn't into the debate. Well that was a mistake! They came back today! I didn't answer the door but now I'm afraid I've got a problem on my hands! Is it typical to stop by again for those guys...and no disrespect intended?

  • My neighbor is JW and she said when they visit a home talk to people and they people say they are not interested at that time, they should leave a pamphlet and than when they go back to the Kingdom they have this huge map on the wall of the areas they should visit and they will mark off they visited a home and let them know what the people said.

If they want studies with the JW they visit again, if not they do not return right away, maybe months later if they do return

  • Worse thing you can do when they knock- tell them you're "in between" churches. They'll come to you like moths to the flame thinking you're a candidate for conversion. Unless, of course, you're willing to give them a chance and see if what they have to say convinces you.

  • Unless you really are interested in listening, the best thing is to just tell them you aren't interested, are too busy to chat and close the door. That's what I have always done and they don't back. Don't be hateful, just polite and FIRM.

  • I never talk to them. I always answer the door with a polite but firm "I'm not interested, so please don't waste my time or yours." I say the same thing when the approach me in a parking lot, too. They always thank me for being honest and I never see them again.

If they come back again, just tell them that you respect their beliefs, but you're not interested in changing religions and ask them to please stopping coming by.

  • Yes. It is typical. If you will talk to them, they will talk to you. One lady came to a friend of mine's house every week at the same time and sat in her house to visit for hours sometimes.

  • I was raised JW, and quite frankly some of these answers are quite out there. If you aren't interested, just tell them that. A simple "Thank you for stopping but I would prefer that you don't come again." Is usually enough to get them to stop coming. If, for some reason, you end up with a really pushy set of JWs that won't stop coming, you can simply call the Kingdom Hall and request that your house be marked as "DO NOT VISIT" on the territory card.

  • Look up a Calvary Chapel church near you just type in a google search calvary chapel followed by your city and state, I think they are great group of churches as I attend Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa myself. I hope you are a believer of Jesus Christ and if you are then all you have to tell them is that you believe Jesus Christ is God and that he died for our sins and rose from the dead and is now alive because JW people do not believe that.

  • Very typical, I just say I don't believe in religion period, and not interested in debating, and they do not come back.....

  • If I had the time, I would listen to what they had to say, then pull out my books and expect them to show me the same courtesy. Of course, it is not likely that I will have the time anytime soon.
