Tired of people talking to me like a child

I am 36 years old married with three children. I am 5'0. I have always looked young for my age. I am so tired of people talking to me like I am a child. I know this may sounds strange, but any suggestions on how to look older?

Thanks!

  • I'm sorry. I have the opposite problem.

Are you dressing age appropriately? I mean, you don't have to dress 'old' but more mature?

  • I had that problem before having my kids. I guess gaining some weight had made me look more my age. Do you wear a lot of makeup? Also I have noticed that your haircut can either make you look younger or more mature.

  • I know what you mean! I'm short and still fairly young (29), but I teach at a high school, and blend in with the kids to the point that I had someone stick their head in my classroom and ask me what I was doing in there unattended, going through the teacher's filing cabinet...and I was dressed like a teacher, for sure.

During the work week, I dress in heels, nice pants, conservative tops, and I make sure my hair is "age appropriate" if that makes sense...the difference between teenage hair and old lady hair. During the weekends and summer, all bets are off. I look however old I look and I don't try to fight it or make myself uncomfortable just to look "old enough".

Side note...I did get a little bitchy with a police officer not too long ago that tried to kick me out of the park with my THREE CHILDREN at curfew. My oldest is almost 7, okay...and I have his daughter in class! Dude...I don't have a curfew LOL!

  • Sorry you have this problem. I am 5'8". I do not have that problem. I really do not think you can do much about it. Maybe change your hair style to a more grown up look. Wear different cloths/ a more grown up look. Or just be happy people think you are younger then you are.A lot of us would love to have that problem.

  • I would say your lucky! I would say it is a blessing,, when someone starts to treat you like a kid, say sure I know blah blah,, you don't live 36 years on the earth and have kids and not know that!

  • Well, I guess I do have the habit of dressing comfy like shorts, t-shirt, and sandals.

  • Actually I don't wear make-up. Not because I don't like it, but because I never seem to have the time to put apply it. I know that's a lame excuse, but its the truth.
